I love 30 Rock’s episode “Do-Over”, where Liz Lemon messes up her first review by the adoption agency and gets to create a second perfect review process on the go-around.
(Fyi, I’m more organized than this, readers, and I would pass inspection by an adoption agency.)
I started looking into adoption and artificial insemination in my late twenties, when I began thinking that I would never find a good mate. How much money did I need to bank? $30K-$40K. Then there were other thoughts, like: What if there were genetic abnormalities with the adopted child or within the sperm? Could I afford to raise a special needs child on my own?
I’m pretty certain that the surest way to bankrupt my finances would be to invest in a kid. As each decade passes, I always keep the option of adoption open. In some ways, my food writing has taken the place of having a kid… crafting food is a lower maintenance way of nurturing a child…
