Orange Is The New Black
I love Jenji Kohan — her intro credit reels for “Weeds” still looms large for its poignant satire on suburban American life. Her new creation, the made-for-Netflix series “Orange Is The New Black”, is just as insightfully rendered. I’d heard about Piper Kerman’s story on NPR before the Netflix series aired: Kerman is a white, upper middle-class woman who serves a 15-month sentence for trucking drug money. The writing and acting are superb: Taylor Schilling, Taryn Manning, Kate Mulgrew are standouts. Jenji Kohan’s pen is as sharp as ever. Piper Kerman’s shaping of her story and of the show’s dialogue must contribute to the tightness of the script. All in all, I can’t wait until Season 2 comes out.
